BTEC Travel and Tourism Level 2 Extended Certificate
Curriculum Area: Humanities
Course Outline: This is a two year course containing 6 units. This course will give you a broad understanding of the UK Travel and Tourism Industry. It will also give you an opportunity to develop and apply a range of practical skills. The 6 units we study are:
The UK Travel and Tourism Sector
Understanding Customer Service in Travel and Tourism
Understanding the nature and effects of world travel
Developing customer service skills in Travel and Tourism

This course is 100% coursework and you will achieve the equivalent of 2 GCSE grades A*-C.
To gain a Pass Grade (2X GCSE C Equivalent) you need to complete all pass level work fully describing the Travel and Tourism Industry in all 6 units.
To gain a Merit Grade (2 X GCSE B Equivalent) you need to complete all pass and merit level work fully describing and explaining the Travel and Tourism Industry in all 6 units.
To gain Distinction grade (2x GCSE A Equivalent) you need to complete all tasks set fully investigating and evaluating the Travel and Tourism Industry in 5 of the 6 units and complete all merit level work in the third unit.
To gain a Distinction * grade (2x GCSE A* Equivalent) you need to complete all tasks set fully investigating and evaluating the Travel and Tourism Industry in all 6 units.
Target Level: Any student gaining a Level 5 or higher in History and/ Geography. This course can be taken over one or two years.
Level of Award: This is a BTEC First Certificate qualification (Level 2) accredited by Edexcel.
End of Course Target: When this course has been completed successfully many choose to go on the study another Travel and Tourism course e.g.: Level 3 BTEC National Course in Travel and Tourism Alternatively this course an be continued and converted into a BTEC Level 2 Diploma which is equivalent to 4 GCSE grades A*-C. (this will mean the completion of another years study) This maybe available for completion in Year 11 if all of the Extended Certificate work is completed in Years 9 and 10.
