Curriculum Area: Humanities


Course Outline:
This is a one year course made up of History, Geography, Sociology and Psychology study units. It will give you a chance to experience a variety of Humanities content, and is designed to develop your knowledge and skills base in preparation for opting into a 'specialist' course in Y10.

You will be assessed according to KS3 Attainment Target Levels. This will be done through teacher, self and peer assessment.

You will achieve Level 3 if you are able to show knowledge and understanding of the topics being studied, by beginning to give reasons for the main events and changes.

You will achieve Level 4 if you are able to describe some of the main topics you have studied to show your understanding, and can identify reasons for events and solutions.

You will achieve Level 5 if you are able to suggest how events and issues are linked, and begin to compare and contrast features of the topics you have studied.

Target Level: Students entering this course in Year 9 will have completed foundation stage History and Geography below level 5.

To access GCSE (History, Geography or Sociology): Level 4
To access Entry Level Humanities: Level 3 or below
