Course Outline: You will follow a Foundation Science course in Year 9, embedding Science knowledge and skills. You will then undertake a GCSE course which involves following core science in all disciplines of Biology, Chemistry and Physics throughout KS4. It is designed for students who do not wish to pursue this subject beyond KS4.
The modules are examined by multiple choice spread across the 2 years of study. They include the study of:
B1a: Coordination & control; Healthy eating; Drug abuse; and Controlling infectious diseases.
B1b:Adaptation for survival; Variation; Evolution; and How people affect the planet.
C1a: Rocks & Building materials; Metals from rocks; and Fuels from crude oil.
C1b: Polymers from oil; Plant oils; Changes in the Earth and its Atmosphere.
P1a: Heat transfer; Using energy; Electrical energy; and Generating electricity.
P1b: Electromagnetic waves; Radioactivity; and The origins of the Universe.
To gain an A grade you need to have a detailed knowledge and understanding of Science content and How Science works.
To gain a C grade you need to have a good overall knowledge and understanding of Science content and How Science works
To gain a F Grade you need to have a limited knowledge and understanding of Science content and How Science works
Target Level: Any student gaining a Foundation Years (KS3) level 4 or below.
Level of Award: GCSE
End of Course Target: To access GCSE Additional Science - Grade C or better.
