Course Outline: This course is entirely portfolio work covering 3 compulsory units in the first year and 3 more units in subsequent years. The work covers aspects of Science which relate to Basic practice in Science; Materials; Universe and Humanity. It is designed for students who wish to have a general overview of science but probably do not wish to follow this core subject beyond KS4.
To gain a Pass you need to complete a series of set portfolio tasks.
To gain a Merit you need to show evidence that you have produced some individual work in your portfolio.
To gain a Distinction you need to have worked independently on the portfolio tasks.
Target Level: Any student gaining Foundation Years (KS3) Level 4 or 5 in Science.
Level of Award: Level 2 Certificate. Equivalent to 4 GCSE's.
End of Course Target: Students who achieve a distinction may be considered for A Level & IBDP Sciences.
